What Makes Veneto and Alto-Adige Wines Special?

Nestled in Northern Italy, these regions boast unique climates and winemaking traditions that result in wines with distinct characteristics.

Veneto, home to Venice and Verona, is one of Italy's largest wine-producing regions. The diversity of its wines reflects its varied landscape, ranging from lakefront vineyards to the foothills of the Alps. Some varieties you might be familiar with already are:

Prosecco, Veneto’s pride and joy. This world-famous sparkling wine has refreshing notes include green apple, pear and citrus.

Amarone della Valpolicella is a bold, full-bodied red wine made from partially dried grapes. You can expect fruit flavors, spicy notes and velvety texture.

Soave is an Elegant and crisp white wine, primarily made from the Garganega grape, is often characterized by floral and almond-like flavors.

Alto-Adige (or Südtirol, to the region’s German speakers) sits at the crossroads of Italy and Austria. Its steep vineyards and cooler Alpine climate foster fresh, aromatic wines.

Noteworthy wines from Alto-Adige include:

Gewürztraminer, named after the village Traminer, this white wine bursts with exotic fruit and floral aromas, making it a standout for its drinkability.

Lagrein is a local red wine varietal known for its deep color and flavors of plum, cherry, and a hint of cocoa.

Alto-Adige is a region which grows plenty of Pinot Grigio, and it elevates this well-known grape with crisp, vibrant flavors that pair will with food.

These regions, though different in personality, both exemplify sophistication in a glass. Now that you know what Veneto and Alto-Adige wines offer, it’s time to explore the flavors in our upcoming wine tasting event.
