Cooking School in Denver or Uncorked Kitchen?
We sometimes get asked, ‘are you a cooking school’ and the answer is yes, but we’re not a structured chef training program offering credentials. Today we’ll discuss the difference between cooking schools in Denver and cooking classes in Denver, as well as which might be right for you.
At first glance, they might seem similar; both involve aprons, ingredients and the guidance of a chef. However, the goals, atmosphere, and outcomes of these two experiences are different. One is a deep dive into technique with lots of repetition to help you practice. The other is a social gathering where the meal is the main event, and learning is recipe-based. Essentially, we want to minimize the classroom part of cooking and maximize the hands-on learning.
What Does a Cooking School in Denver Offer?
Cooking school is an educational commitment that will eat up more than a few hours’ time during one evening. Professional culinary schools are in the business of training chefs, and you can expect structured, curriculum-based learning. Also, they probably aren’t serving wine :)
What Does a Cooking Class in Denver Offer?
Our cooking events are designed to be enjoyed on your schedule as a social, fun and accessible learning opportunity. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or a master in the kitchen, your chef will help you prepare an excellent meal while you learn along the way.
While we will cover things like technique and kitchen chemistry, our cooking events are recipe-driven. You are there to make a specific meal, which might be anything from 3 – 5 courses, all with a theme, like Green Chile Brunch, or The Art of Paella.
Our chef-led instruction is aimed at helping you learn the skills needed, rather than pointing out mistakes made along the way. The chef is there to guide and ensure you don't burn dinner, rather than to critique your knife handling (unless you ask for tips).
We work hard to create cooking classes that anyone can enjoy, but some of the most common people who join us are:
- Couples on Date Night
- Friends Looking for a Memorable Event
- Teams Looking for a Collaborative Experience
- Individuals Looking for Low-Pressure Cooking Instruction
- Families Encouraging their Children to Cook
Deciding between a cooking school in Denver and a cooking class at Uncorked Kitchen ultimately comes down to you. Are you looking to break into a culinary career, or just learn some new kitchen skills?
If a cooking event sounds more your speed, check in with our Events page and see which one speaks to you. Some cooking classes are designed for certain audiences (couples, families etc.) but other than that, it’s mostly about which meal you’d like to prepare and eat. We hope to see you at an upcoming class!
